Johan Ibrahim Adam

Johan Ibrahim Adam (b. 1989) was born in Örebro, Sweden, where his journey in the arts began at Örebro Konstskola. This was followed by a bachelor's diploma in Fine art and Design at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He now lives and works in Stockholm and is currently busy with a master's degree at Konstfack. Johan shares his work and experiences through teaching, performances, and exhibitions and is represented at galleries, kindergartens, institutions, and private collections in South Africa, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Sweden. 

Johan’s practice is seriously playful as he creates spaces where he allows tiny details to congregate into complex ideas and how giant thoughts can become close to non-existent while drawing inspiration from natural phenomena and scientific research. As well as spiritual thinking and historical interpretations. The core of Johan’s work is concentrated on painting, which he uses to juxtapose fiction and reality as a means to examine life around and within himself. Each work is commonly attached strongly to a story; be it of individual heritage, collective experiences, or reflections on societal pressures. Concerning current political statements and historical perceptions, to investigate hierarchical structures. The visualisation of color, shape, and language in Johan’s practice has grown to develop in an arrangement of mediums such as glass, poetry, performance, textile, and sculpture as well.
