Jenny Tähkänen is a ceramic artist working from her home studio in Skåne, Sweden. With a background in sociology and working with people and mental health issues, her design practice is something out of the ordinary. Her ceramic works often revolve around our relationship with nature and her pieces are curious and seem to be communicating stories. Jenny Tähkänen works in stoneware clay and uses several techniques. Most are coils built by hand; some are produced by working with the clay on a potter's wheel. As an artist, she uses organic shapes and sculptures to express an ambiguous view of an object’s functions playing with its biological mechanisms. Doing this she is influenced by “interactions and norms in society and in nature, and the morphology in biology: sizes, shapes and structures and what happens when we change them.”
