The founder of THBLKDR, Johan Schalin, born in Stockholm in 1960, found his creative journey transitioning from fashion design to an intimate connection with materials and craftsmanship. An artist at heart, his fascination lies in the inherent essence of materials - be it copper, silver, wax, or bronze - that seemingly breathe life into his creations. After a stint in fashion and film, Johan returned to his artistic roots. His jewelry, a fusion of simplicity and depth, emerges from a synergy between intent and material, effortlessly whispering tales of artistry. After completing his Master of Art thesis at Konstfacks Craftprogram – Ädellab, Johan now devotes himself entirely to his artistic endeavors.
