Gerda Meyerson
Born on 1 February 1866 in Stockholm.
Gerda Meyerson is best remembered today for her work in the disability movement. Gerda herself was hearing-impaired since childhood, and in 1921 she took the initiative to form the Swedish Association for the Deaf, what is today HRF, Hörselskadades Riksförbund. In the first years, the organization was focused mainly on hearing-impaired children receiving aids and special education, and courses in lab biology (reading from the lips). Gerda traveled around the country giving talks and helping start local organizations.
FOR A BETTER SOCIETY was the most important thing for Gerda Meyerson, a society that shows respect for all people. A value that is important to Michaelartz. Respect for oneself, respect for each other, and our similarities but also differences. Respect is one of MichaelArtz's most important values.
